Hagen’s acting techniques encourage actors to avoid over-intellectualizing their processes and instead root themselves in rigorous observation of their own habits. Key elements of Hagen’s technique that translate well into helping actors having competitive advantage over their peers in their audition self-tapes include inner objects, transference, specificity, authenticity and preparation. Uta Hagen’s exercises are her greatest gift to actors working today. She developed them between her own jobs to solve some acting problems that she had never seen anyone tackle to her satisfaction. The result is that the exercises give actors a way to observe human behavior and catalog it so they can recall it in a scene.

The Chubbuck Technique has been developed by the American acting coach Ivana Chubbuck, which she epxlains in her book THE POWER OF THE ACTOR. This acting technique – based on the teachings of Stanislavski – is the only acting technique that is scientifically based on psychology and human behavioural science.  Many international A-list actors, such as Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Travis Fimmel, Halle Berry, Jared Leto, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Thure Lindhardt, etc… have been able to build successful careers by using this effective technique.

VOICE CLASS (Alexander Technique / Linklater Technique)

With Joe Alberti, PHD and Genoa Davidson

FRIDAYS 7pm to 9  PM CENTRAL EUROPEAN TIME ON ZOOM

The study of Linklater and Alexander Technique is required at the top drama schools around the world, including the Yale School of Drama, The Juilliard School, ACT, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
The Alexander Technique is an approach that aims to re-educate the mind and the body through a series of movements so the body uses muscles more efficiently. Actors trained in the Alexander Technique consistently feel more confident and free — physically, vocally, and creatively — to do their best work. The physical and imaginative freedom that can be discovered through Alexander work can be a vital part of the actor’s craft.
The Linklater Voice progression seeks to undo habitual tensions that inhibit expression and awaken new connections in order to open and strengthen the voice/body/mind connection. The method takes you through a series of step-by-step practical exercises that include relaxation, awareness of breathing, the experience of voice vibrating in the body, how to open the throat, the development of resonance and range, and the articulating activity of lips and tongue. As you awaken your voice consciousness you will discover the expressive potential of the human voice and develop your own vocal eloquence.

Joe studied at the Yale School of Drama directly under Earle Gister, widely hailed as one of America’s foremost acting teachers. He co-authored a book with Gister which is the only available book on Gister’s teachings. He currently teaches Voice & Diction on the faculty of the Helmerich School of Drama at University of Oklahoma and has previously taught at Syracuse University. Joe holds a Ph.D. In Theatre and was previously awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
